NEW YORK CITY — Two tornadoes could develop out of a storm front bearing down on New York City, forecasters warn.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect Monday until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
"Storms will bring heavy rain, some will bring strong, gusty winds, and a tornado or two is possible," Gov. Kathy Hochul tweeted, along with information about the severe thunderstorm watch.
A frontal system is blowing through the area, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued Monday morning.
Even if the most severe threats don't develop from the system, the forecast shows the day could be rainy, with a 50 percent chance of precipitation during the day.
The chance of rain will increase to 70 percent during the evening, according to the forecast.
Some storms will produce heavy downpours, which could lead to localized flooding, the outlook states.
